Your Wedding
The beautiful sanctuary of the Congregational Church of La Jolla is a marvellous setting for the weddings of members and nonmembers alike. With seating for up to 150, we can accommodate the plans of most couples, and our friendly staff is easy to work with. We also have a beautiful, airy social hall and adjacent patio with dinner seating for up to 100 that can be rented for receptions. Christian Marriage
The essence of marriage is a covenanted commitment that has its foundation in the faithfulness of God’s love. The marriage ceremony is the glad occasion on which two people unite in the mutual exchange of covenant promises. The minister acts as an official representative of the church, and gives the marriage the church’s blessing. The gathered community joins in affirming the marriage and in offering support and thanksgiving for the new family. All couples are viewed as equals by our congregation, and none will be turned away based on gender.
Pre-marital Counseling
It is the responsibility of the one who presides to meet with the couple prior to the marriage ceremony in order to counsel them concerning the Christian understanding of this relationship, to become acquainted with them as individuals and as a couple, and to discuss with them all aspects of the wedding ceremony.
Church Staff
It is expected that the pastor of this church will conduct all weddings held in its sanctuary, and the church's organist is the only one permitted to play its organ. Our sound system is not compatible with pre-recorded music. Though the couple may have a wedding planner of their own for the reception and other events surrounding the occasion, it must be understood that the pastor, wedding coördinator, and music director of this church are responsible of the ceremony in our sanctuary.
